Paper Sculpture Review

I worked on the sculpture for around 3 weeks and I was not able to figure it out. In the end, I decided to scrap this idea completely as it was too complicated and I needed more time and experience to work on paper sculptures like these. On review, it may be better if I take a sculpture class first before attempting this again.

Some initial ideas about the sculpture.

Initial ideas continued.

Ended up using computer rendering as reference as it was getting difficult working in 3D.

Tried making a paper sculpture purely from tearing and folding but wasn’t able to progress more or add more textures to the face to make it more round.

Used wire to make a frame but it was too flimsy when I started to attach paper to it.

Pivoted to cardboard instead of metal wires for the frame. There was more success as the structure was more solid.

The cardboard model also stood up by it self without needing a base.

I was able to wrap the paper around forming more organic curves. However, it was getting too complicated as I could not work out in my head, how the paper should be curled or folded to form the muscles and facial structure of the stone lion.
