Repetition and Materiality

Immediately I thought about Ai Wei Wei’s Sunflower Seeds (2010) where the installation contained one million handpainted ceramic sunflower seeds. I thought it would be interesting to incorporate sunflower seeds into a collagraph by arranging them like scales for fishes, dragons or kirins. I was also very intrigued with the idea of installation as we have been doing print for the entire semester, potentially using repetition and materiality in this type of way to create scales for a sculpture.
